The Sony Ericsson R300 Radio is a smart looking and inexpensive candy bar phone that doubles as a very small portable FM/AM radio. One of a pair of new “Radio” phones, along with the R306, the R300 is aimed at those customers who either don’t want a phone with an MP3 player or can’t afford one.

It’s quite a simple phone, the Sony Ericsson R300 has a basic 128 x 160 pixel display, a 0.3 megapixel resolution (VGA) camera, a WAP browser and Bluetooth. A stereo wired headset is included in the box (this also acts as the antenna), and the R300 radio has a large loudspeaker on the back along with channel selector buttons.

It’s a pretty simple handset, but as well as keeping the price down, this does mean that the R300 radio weighs only 75 grams, has 9 hours maximum talktime and it has 16 days standby times.

There are two known variants – the R300i is a tri-band GSM 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz device for the international market, the R300a is aimed at North America and supports GSM 850 / 1800 / 1900 instead. Two colour combinations have been mentioned, Antique Copper and Steel Black.

Sony Ericsson say that the R300 should be available during Q2 2008, but did not give any guidance on price.
